The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) has incorporated Twi, Ga, Ewe, Dagbani, Nzema, and Hausa into its computer-based driving test, according to Mr Julius Neequaye Kotey, Chief Executive Officer of the DVLA. This initiative aims to reduce language barriers for applicants who cannot read or write in English, allowing them to demonstrate their knowledge of road safety in languages they understand. The DVLA also announced an SMS service for licence renewal reminders and an electronic library system. To combat fraud, the DVLA is using On-board Diagnostics (OBD-II) scanners to verify vehicles and detect those with illegally cloned Vehicle Identification Numbers. As of October 9, 2026, 357 vehicles had been impounded and transferred to the Ghana Revenue Authority for tax processing.
