The Wa High Court in the Upper West Region has sentenced a 29-year-old tricycle rider to 14 years' imprisonment for defiling a young child he conveyed to and from school.
According to MyJoyOnline, the man was convicted after a full trial. He had pleaded not guilty to defilement of a child under 16 years.
The prosecution told the court, presided over by Justice Wusu Osei Antwi, that the child's mother noticed injuries on 21 February 2026 and the matter was reported to DOVVSU in Wa. A medical examination at the Upper West Regional Hospital confirmed sexual assault.
The court held that the prosecution had proved its case beyond reasonable doubt and said the convict had breached the trust placed in him as the person who conveyed the child daily.
