The Upper West Regional Command of the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) says it has destroyed several cannabis gardens at Siiru, a community near the Black Volta in the Nadowli District.
According to a statement published by NACOC, the joint operation with officers of the Ghana Immigration Service followed intelligence gathered by Immigration officers.
The commission said the team found several locations suspected to have been planted with cannabis, some of it already harvested and some close to harvest.
Further searches found cannabis growing in incomplete buildings, in front of houses and alongside maize crops, NACOC said.
After the operation, the team spoke to community members about the dangers and consequences of cannabis cultivation and substance abuse and asked for their cooperation against illicit drug activity.
NACOC did not say when the operation took place, whether anyone was arrested or how much cannabis was destroyed. No charges have been reported.
