A 29-year-old auto mechanic has been remanded into police custody by the Nsuta Circuit Court over a television set allegedly stolen from a tomb at Nwase Cemetery, near Asante Mampong in the Ashanti Region.
According to Adom Online, Yussif Sammed, also known as Isaac, pleaded guilty with an explanation before the court, presided over by Simon Nketiah Gagah. The court entered a guilty plea after considering his admission that he failed to verify who owned the television before buying it.
The prosecution said the 50-inch television, valued at GH¢4,000, was allegedly stolen from the tomb by another man who is on the run. The theft was discovered by the deceased's family on 13 October, and the television was later recovered from the accused's room at Mampong Zongo.
The prosecution said the accused bought the television for GH¢650. In his explanation, he told the court the other man had asked him for financial help, saying his wife was in a hospital labour ward, and promised to repay the money and collect the television later.
The case was adjourned to 3 November 2026 for conviction and sentencing, The Ghana Report said. Police are pursuing the alleged thief.
No conviction has yet been recorded, and the man alleged to have stolen the television has not been arrested or charged.
