The Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) has filed an application at the High Court seeking to confiscate properties linked to former NPP Ashanti Regional Chairman Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, known as Wontumi.
According to 3News, the application, filed on 20 August under the Economic and Organised Crime Act, 2010 (Act 804) and the Anti-Money Laundering Act, 2020 (Act 1044), names Wontumi, Wontumi Farms Limited, Akonta Mining Limited and Paradise Insurance Limited as respondents.
EOCO is asking the court to allow it to seize the Akonta Mining Limited concession, mining equipment, landed properties, vehicles, investments and GH¢50m invested in Treasury Bills through Paradise Insurance Limited, which it alleges are tainted property.
The application is anchored partly on the alleged 2018 Ghana EXIM Bank transaction for which Wontumi is on trial. EOCO alleges that about GH¢18.7m was disbursed to Wontumi Farms Limited on representations about land and equipment that investigators say were not accurate.
EOCO also cites an approximately GH¢80m payment it alleges Wontumi received in January 2025 under a COCOBOD contract with Hallmark Civil Engineering Limited.
The allegations have not been tested in court, and Wontumi's response to the application was not reported. He remains presumed innocent in the EXIM Bank trial.
