A study by the Foundation for Security and Development in Africa (FOSDA) has found that 2,172 defilement cases were filed in court between 2020 and 2025, with 886 still pending.

According to Graphic Online, the 1,286 cases concluded during the period took an average of 329.1 days to dispose of.

FOSDA Executive Director Theodora Williams Anti presented the figures at a stakeholder validation workshop in Accra on the evaluation of Ghana's second National Action Plan on Women, Peace and Security (GHANAP II).

She said the figures underscored the need for timely and accessible justice for survivors of sexual violence.

The study did not identify any individual case, victim or accused person.
