The Ada West District Security Council (DISEC) has ordered a halt to salt mining at 9 disputed salt pans on the Songor Lagoon after a clash between rival community factions reportedly left about 11 people seriously injured.

According to Chale News, citing the Ghana News Agency, the clash happened on 26 October 2026 when a group performing a libation rite at the site was attacked. Police and DISEC officials intervened.

A local chief told GNA the pans belong to Electrochem Ghana Limited, which he said has sued him and members of his community over alleged trespass. That case is pending.

No arrests have been reported. The trespass claim remains before the court, and those involved are presumed innocent.
