The family of George and Irene Atubiga, who were shot dead at NTHC Estate, Sakumono, in the Greater Accra Region, has denied reports that George owed the suspect GH¢500,000.
According to Adom Online, a family statement said George and the suspect were business partners in a money-lending venture and had disagreed over difficulties recovering loans. A family representative had been mediating the dispute for about seven months.
The family alleged that the meeting at which the two were shot was held without the representative's knowledge, and described the shooting as premeditated. Adom Online noted that this allegation has not been independently established.
Police said in a 30 October statement that efforts were under way to arrest the suspect. The family appealed to him to turn himself in.
No one has been charged over the killings, and the suspect is presumed innocent.
