Court activities across Ghana were disrupted on Monday, 2 November 2026, as the Judicial Service Staff Association of Ghana (JUSAG) began a nationwide strike.
According to The Ghana Report, the Supreme Court, Court of Appeal, Accra High Court, Circuit Court and some District Courts were closed. Security personnel were reportedly told to keep entrances locked, and court users were left stranded outside the Accra High Court.
Citi Newsroom reported that red cloth had been tied at some court entrances to signal the association's concerns.
JUSAG is demanding payment of outstanding salary arrears from the implementation of a revised salary structure dating back to January 2026.
In Kumasi, MyJoyOnline reported that the Kumasi High Court, Court of Appeal, Asokwa Circuit Court and KMA Court were closed, with some people who had cases listed for hearing or judgment on Monday finding the gates locked.
Judicial Secretary Musah Ahmed has appealed to JUSAG to suspend the strike, saying management has been in negotiations with government stakeholders to resolve the workers' concerns.
It is not yet clear how long the strike will last or how scheduled hearings will be rearranged.
