Kofi Sackey, a 56-year-old cocoa farmer, was found dead in a room at Assin Ketukrom in the Assin North District of the Central Region on Tuesday, 3 November 2026, with a gunshot wound to his abdomen.

A single-barrelled shotgun was resting on his chest when a police team led by the Assin North District Commander, Superintendent Eric Yao Avudzivi, reached the scene.

His younger brother reported the death to the district police command at about noon after returning from the farm. A nephew told investigators the family heard a sound like a gunshot shortly after Sackey left the house at about 11am, but found no one outside.

The local Assembly Member, Kingsford Deku, has linked the incident to a family dispute over ownership of a cocoa farm. He said Sackey had locked himself inside his brother's room beforehand.

Police photographed the scene, and the body has been deposited at the New Edubiase Government Hospital mortuary for autopsy.
