Police in the Ashanti Region have arrested 3 Nigerian nationals suspected of belonging to a syndicate allegedly behind a series of robberies targeting bank customers in Kumasi and its environs.
In a press statement dated 3 November 2026, the Ashanti Regional Police Command said an IGP's Special Team, made up of personnel from the Anti-Armed Robbery Unit of the CID Headquarters and the Accra Regional Police Intelligence Directorate, mounted an intelligence-led operation at about 11.30pm on 31 October 2026.
Police said the operation led to the arrest of Aboy Promise, 30, and Favour Uwalaka, 45, at a hotel at Moshie Zongo. A search of their rooms allegedly uncovered GH¢1,600, assorted mobile phones, a Royal motorbike and a master key that police say was used to open victims' vehicles and steal cash.
According to police, the pair named 2 alleged accomplices and later led officers to another hotel at Dechemso, a suburb of Kumasi, where a third suspect, Kingsley, alias KC, 35, also a Nigerian national, was arrested. A fourth suspect, identified only as Chinedu, alias Alhaji, is on the run.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the group allegedly watched banking premises, picked out customers who withdrew large sums of money and followed them before attacking and robbing them, police said. The suspects are also alleged to have broken into unattended vehicles belonging to bank customers and stolen cash kept inside.
Police said the suspects admitted robbing a victim of GH¢15,000 at Asokore Mampong on Tuesday, 27 October 2026, after the victim withdrew money from Kwamang Rural Bank. They are also said to have admitted similar robberies at the Atonsu branch of Fidelity Bank, the Ahodwo branch of Access Bank and other locations in Kumasi.
The 3 suspects have been handed over to the Ashanti Regional Police Command and are assisting with investigations. Police appealed to anyone with information on the suspect at large to report to the nearest police station or call 191, 112 or the toll-free line 18555, and urged bank customers not to leave cash or valuables unattended in vehicles.
No court appearance or charges were reported in the statement, and the suspects remain presumed innocent until proven guilty.
