The Member of Parliament for Asante Akyem North, Ohene Kwame Frimpong, remains in custody in the Netherlands after two attempts to secure his release on bail were refused.
Majority Chief Whip and South Dayi MP Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor told a leaders' media briefing in Accra on 3 November 2026 that a substantive bail application and an appeal had both failed.
He said the extradition hearing was scheduled for 18 November 2026, barring unforeseen circumstances, and dismissed claims that the MP had already been taken to the United States.
Mr Frimpong was detained at Amsterdam's Schiphol Airport on 10 May 2026 after arriving from Ghana. The arrest followed an extradition request from the United States linked to allegations of romance scams, fraud and money laundering. Parliament confirmed his detention on 12 May 2026.
His lawyers have argued that the warrant issued by a US magistrate court was intended for questioning and did not contain formal criminal charges.
The allegations have not been tested in court and Mr Frimpong has not been convicted of any offence. He remains presumed innocent.
