Ghana Navy Special Boat Squadron personnel crossed the River Offin in an inflatable boat to reach illegal mining equipment at Nipanekro, in the Upper Denkyira West District of the Central Region.

The operation, led by the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS), followed an earlier attempt to clear the site that met stiff resistance from Changfan operators.

Miners abandoned their rafts and fled as the team advanced. Some were pursued towards Manso Tontokrom, and equipment found in and around the river was immobilised.

Drone footage showed a group of suspected illegal miners, some carrying pump-action guns, gathering about two miles from the site and threatening to confront the team. NAIMOS held its position without engaging, and the group dispersed.

NAIMOS Commander Colonel S.K. Appiah said operations on the river would continue until illegal mining there ends.
