Nineteen people were arrested and 117 human trafficking victims were identified in Sasaabi, an Accra suburb, during an international crackdown on online scam centres. Authorities seized 303 electronic devices, according to the United States Department of Justice. The identified trafficking victims are awaiting repatriation to Nigeria. Investigators also identified an additional 89 victims of fraud schemes, with estimated losses of $8.3 million. The operation was part of "Joint Disruption Week", a coordinated international enforcement exercise targeting scam centres in Ghana, Nigeria, and other African countries. Ghana’s Cyber Security Authority, the Ghana Police Service’s Criminal Investigation Department, and the National Security Service led the local operation, supported by international agencies. The disrupted schemes included impersonation of law enforcement, digital extortion, cryptocurrency investment fraud, and other online scams. Participating technology companies reported removing over 3.7 million accounts used in targeting people internationally.
