The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) plans to intensify public education regarding customs duties to enhance travellers' comprehension of assessment and payment procedures. This initiative also aims to advise passengers on challenging duty assessments and reporting potential misconduct by customs officers. The GRA stated this follows allegations of extortion made by a passenger at the Accra International Airport. According to the GRA's statement, an investigation confirmed the passenger arrived on a specific date, and a search of her luggage revealed new clothing and wigs. A duty of GH¢807.68 was assessed on 20 pairs of shoes.
