The Data Protection Commission (DPC) has asked the management of Barry Callebaut, a food processing company in Tema, to report to the Headquarters of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service in Accra by Wednesday, 14 October 2026, the Ghana News Agency (GNA) reports.

GNA said the directive was issued as the Commission presses organisations that process personal data to meet their duties under the Data Protection Act, 2012 (Act 843).

On the same day, GNA separately reported that the DPC is strengthening enforcement after registering 2,575 data controllers in 2026, with spot checks, inspections and verification of registration status among the tools being used.

Further details of the specific findings against Barry Callebaut, including whether any certificate has expired or other Act 843 duties are alleged to have been breached, were not set out in the GNA posts available to GhanaCrimes at the time of writing. The company had not issued a public response in those reports.

Under Act 843, organisations that process personal data are required to register with the Commission where the law requires it and to meet ongoing compliance duties on how personal information is collected, used, stored and protected.
