The Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) says it is pursuing suspected accomplices in Ghana after a Syrian national was arrested at Rafic Hariri International Airport in Beirut, Lebanon, with about 40 kilogrammes of suspected cocaine on a flight from Accra.
According to Graphic Online, the suspect was arrested on Saturday, 31 October 2026, with the suspected drugs concealed in two pieces of luggage. A NACOC statement issued on 1 November 2026 said the arrest followed a controlled delivery operation involving drug law enforcement authorities in Ghana and Lebanon.
NACOC said the operation was designed to identify people involved at both ends of the supply chain and to gather intelligence to help dismantle the wider network behind the shipment. It said it was working to identify and arrest the suspect's accomplices in Ghana.
Citi Newsroom reported that Lebanon's customs authority put the seizure at 46.7 kilogrammes in 40 packages, and described it as the largest drug seizure in the airport's history. Customs identified the passenger only by the initials B.H. and said electronic tracking devices were found inside the packages.
Lebanese customs said preliminary investigations suggested the suspect had been tasked with transporting the drugs as part of an organised smuggling operation, and that investigators were trying to identify the intended recipient.
No arrests in Ghana had been announced. The suspect has not been convicted of any offence and is presumed innocent.
