An Adenta Circuit Court has granted bail to a 53-year-old businessman accused of defrauding a business partner of US$3.5m.

According to the Ghana News Agency, Amadou Mohammed pleaded not guilty to a charge of defrauding by false pretences.

The prosecution alleges that in 2022 he collected the money from the complainant under the pretext of facilitating the shipment of an investment fund said to be worth US$400m to Nigeria.

Prosecutors told the court that the accused and the complainant were business partners at the time of the alleged transaction.

The court admitted him to bail in the sum of GH¢400,000 with two sureties, to be justified with landed property.

No date for the next hearing was reported. The allegations remain before the court, and the accused is presumed innocent.
