A 15-year-old Ghanaian boy has died after being shot once in the abdomen while walking near a school in the Claremont section of the Bronx, New York, on Thursday morning, police said.

According to Adom Online, citing CBS News New York, the shooting happened just before 9:30am near East 171st Street and Crotona Place, around the corner from the apartment the boy shared with his father.

The NYPD said it was looking for three teenage boys aged 16 to 18, last seen wearing black clothing and blue surgical masks. Police said it was unclear what led to the shooting.

The boy's father said his son had complained of being bullied at school and that two boys had been suspended after a fight a few days earlier. The school and the Department of Education did not immediately respond to the claims.

No arrests were reported. The suspects have not been identified.
