Minister for Sports and Recreation Kofi Adams has stated that some Ghanaians ignored his warnings against paying agents who promised to secure visas for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. According to Mr. Adams, information gathered after the tournament indicated that individuals paid people, some allegedly in official positions, without the Ministry's knowledge. He had repeatedly cautioned the public against giving money to those claiming to use personal connections or influence for visa applications. Mr. Adams advised seeking assistance only from registered entities with established procedures. He recalled warnings against individuals claiming personal relationships with him or oversight committee members to solicit money for visa processing. The Minister maintained that the Ministry was not informed of these alleged activities. These comments follow scrutiny of visa facilitation arrangements involving the Ghana Tourism Authority and the National Sports Authority, with the Minority in Parliament raising concerns about alleged charges of US$7,000 to US$14,000 for visa assistance. President John Dramani Mahama has directed Yaw Ampofo Ankrah to step aside as Director-General of the National Sports Authority amid a police investigation into these allegations.
