Mubarak Mohammed Muntaka, the Minister for the Interior, stated that the large number of illegal routes presents a security challenge requiring enhanced cooperation with neighboring countries, particularly through intelligence sharing and coordinated efforts. Speaking on Joy FM, the Minister noted that while Ghana's overall security situation has improved compared to previous years, challenges such as ethnic conflicts, land disputes, illicit drugs, and border vulnerabilities persist. He assured that the government and security agencies are working to protect the public. The Minister pointed to a reduction in the number of curfews imposed across the country as an indicator of improved security, citing a significant period without gunfire in Bawku. He explained that security operations combined with mediation and peacebuilding efforts have helped contain conflicts. Despite these improvements, the Minister emphasized the need for sustained attention to ongoing threats and effective border management, stressing that Ghana cannot tackle transnational security threats alone and must collaborate with neighboring nations.
