The Upper East Regional Police Commander, DCOP John Ferguson Dzineku, has urged stakeholders and authorities in the Kusaug Traditional Area to assist in mopping up firearms from civilians. This appeal is part of efforts to curb increasing crime in Garu, Tempane, and Bawku. According to the Police Commander, despite relative peace returning to Bawku and its environs, the widespread availability of firearms among civilians poses a significant security threat. He emphasized the need for collaborative efforts to retrieve these weapons now that peace is being restored. DCOP Dzineku made this appeal during the Upper East Regional Minister's tour, where chiefs from Garu and Tempane expressed concerns about rising armed robbery and killings. The Police Commander assured residents that investigations are ongoing and the police will act professionally to ensure only culprits are brought to book. He also disclosed that plans are advanced to establish a separate Police District for Tempane to enhance police presence and improve crime-fighting effectiveness.
