The Ghana Police Service has inducted its first female chaplain since it was established in 1964.

According to the Ghana News Agency, Chief Superintendent of Police the Reverend Mrs Emelia Quist was inducted at a ceremony at the Accra Police Church, conducted by Reverend Colonel David Adotey Asare, Chairperson of the Ga Presbytery.

She is expected to provide spiritual guidance, counselling and pastoral care to police personnel and their families.

Rev. Col. Asare urged her to combine her religious calling with discipline and excellence, and to earn the trust of personnel through confidentiality and dedicated service.

Rev. Mrs Quist, who has served 30 years in the Police Service, said God's calling was not limited by gender and pledged to encourage more women to serve in the ministry.

Members of the Police Management Board, retired Inspectors-General of Police, clergy and members of the Presbyterian Church attended the ceremony.
