According to the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) in the Ashanti region, a factory belonging to Unni Associates Company Limited, the manufacturers of Arcan Bitters, has been shut down in Senfi within the Bekwai Municipality. The enforcement action occurred after the company allegedly resumed production despite a previous closure order. The company had previously faced a shutdown at its Parkoso facility in the Asokore Mampong Municipality in September. FDA officials stated that laboratory tests identified the presence of Sildenafil Citrate, a prescription drug used for erectile dysfunction, in the alcoholic beverage. The Ashanti Regional Head of the FDA, Dr. Ashraf Haruna, noted that the product is registered as an alcoholic food item and is not permitted to contain medicinal substances. During the recent operation, officers seized 23 barrels of alcoholic content, approximately 1,500 boxes of the beverage, and over 5,000 empty bottles. The FDA is currently working with the police to facilitate the arrest of the factory owner.
