Fifteen individuals have been arrested for their alleged involvement in sandwinning activities on the Kumasi, Accra Expressway project, according to MyJoy News. The suspects were apprehended in the Sewua, Donyina, Appiadu enclave during a swoop by National Security officers on Wednesday, October 14. Six trucks, including a wheel loader, were also impounded. An Assistant Liaison Officer stated the suspects have been transported to Accra for further investigations. A viral video indicated the individuals were excavating and removing sand from the expressway for commercial purposes, raising concerns about potential destruction to the road infrastructure. The Assistant Liaison Officer described the activity as unacceptable and advised the public to desist from such practices. The regional security council is expected to meet to discuss increasing patrols along the expressway. Some suspects remain at large as a manhunt intensifies. The Bosomtwe District Chief Executive disclosed that the suspects claimed to have authorization from the Ejisu Municipality Assembly but failed to produce a permit. The matter has been referred to the police.
