Private legal practitioner Ken Kuranchie, a friend of former NPP Ashanti Regional Chairman Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, also known as Chairman Wontumi, stated he is pleased with Wontumi's condition while in custody. Kuranchie spoke with Wontumi for over 30 minutes before the EXIM Bank case was heard in court. Wontumi has pleaded not guilty to charges related to the alleged fraudulent acquisition of GH¢14.3 million from the Ghana Export-Import Bank for a proposed large-scale farming project. Wontumi appeared cheerful in court, dressed in a white shirt and black trousers, and exchanged pleasantries with his legal team and supporters. Kuranchie told Citi News after the proceedings that Wontumi looked "well, strong and clean" and expressed happiness with his friend's state of wellbeing.
