According to the Ghana News Agency, the Office of the Attorney-General has advised the prosecution of former Adenta Member of Parliament Emmanuel Nii Ashie-Moore for allegedly stealing the personal belongings of a Singaporean businessman. A legal opinion issued by the Attorney-General's Office found sufficient evidence to support a charge of stealing under the Criminal Offences Act, 1960. The advice, addressed to the Criminal Investigations Department of the Ghana Police Service, recommends that Mr. Ashie-Moore be formally charged and a statement obtained from him. Investigations reportedly established that Mr. Ashie-Moore checked the complainant, Toh You Kang, out of a hotel while the businessman was in police custody and subsequently removed his luggage. The Attorney-General's Office stated that CCTV footage and other evidence support the allegation of dishonest appropriation. The case is linked to a broader dispute involving claims that Mr. Ashie-Moore promised to assist the complainant in securing contracts. The Attorney-General's Office emphasized that this advice is a recommendation for prosecution and does not constitute a finding of guilt, as the suspect remains presumed innocent.
