Northern Ashanti Mines has accused personnel it identified as members of the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) of using armed intimidation during an operation at its mining concession in Konongo.

According to Citi Newsroom, company director and shareholder Fredrick Okine made the allegations during the Citi Breakfast Show on 27 October 2026.

Okine claimed that the personnel arrived with dogs and firearms on 22 October and gave approximately 400 workers two and a half hours to leave the concession.

He also alleged that military personnel were stationed around the mine and that management instructed workers not to resist.

The operation followed the termination of the company's mining lease over alleged breaches that the company reportedly failed to remedy.

Northern Ashanti Mines has applied for an injunction to prevent the state from taking over the concession while a judicial review application challenging the lease termination is considered.

The allegations concerning the conduct of the operation are attributed to the company. The report did not include a response from NAIMOS or the Minerals Commission.
