Deputy Foreign Minister James Gyakye Quayson has assured the family of Akpene Diamond Tetteh of government support in their pursuit of justice over her killing in the United States.

Ms Tetteh, 37, was shot dead in Georgia on 12 February 2026, weeks after completing her PhD. Police said gunfire erupted at about 2:30 p.m. and officers found her in the street with life-threatening injuries.

The family, led by lawyer Chris Ackummey, met Mr Quayson on 4 November 2026. The Foreign Affairs Ministry said he pledged assistance within its mandate and reaffirmed concern for Ghanaians abroad.

One juvenile suspect was arraigned in Savannah, Georgia, on 3 March 2026 and is on trial. A second juvenile suspect remains at large. Neither has been named in Ghanaian official statements.
