The Ghana Navy's Riverine Command intercepted two wooden boats carrying 117 sacks of substances suspected to be cannabis at the Ada Estuary in the Greater Accra Region at about 1:00am on Thursday, 5 November 2026.

The consignment weighed about 4.8 tonnes, with an estimated street value of more than US$1 million. Suspects abandoned the boats and fled when naval personnel approached.

The boats were moved to Ada Foah and searched from about 5:00am in the presence of Narcotics Control Commission officials. The substances have been handed to NACOC for laboratory examination.

Director of Naval Operations Naval Captain Festus Osei-Brobbey said the haul was among the Navy's largest recent marijuana interceptions and that the boats had been preparing to move the cargo out of the country by sea.
