The Crime Check Foundation has launched an Employ One Returning Citizen campaign to encourage employers to give people who have left prison a chance to work.

Executive Director Alhaji Ibrahim Oppong Kwarteng said at the Maiden National Returning Citizens Conference in Accra that stigma and discrimination often block jobs after release.

He urged employers to weigh qualifications and skills, and called for a national reintegration framework with district committees, a data system, legal reforms and a fund for skills training.

The Foundation said it had helped more than 1,000 petty offenders leave prison and supported hundreds of former inmates back into work, and proposed a New Beginning Village transitional facility on land already secured.
