Kojo Oppong Nkrumah has sued Jamal Konney for GHC30 million. Mr. Nkrumah is a Member of Parliament for Ofoase-Ayirebi. Mr. Konney is the Deputy Managing Director for Operations at the Cocoa Marketing Company.
The lawsuit was filed at the High Court in Accra. Mr. Nkrumah claims Mr. Konney made untrue statements about him. These statements suggested Mr. Nkrumah was involved in illegal mining activities, known as galamsey.
Mr. Konney is also the Eastern Regional Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC). The lawsuit seeks damages for alleged harm to Mr. Nkrumah's reputation.
Mr. Nkrumah has stated that the claims by Mr. Konney are false. The court will now hear the details of the defamation suit.
