The High Court in Accra has thrown out a case that sought to stop the Ayawaso East by-election. The court ruled the lawsuit was incompetent, meaning it was not properly filed or valid.

The Democracy Hub group brought the case before the court. They wanted to halt the election process.

The reason given for the lawsuit was alleged vote buying. This was said to have occurred during the National Democratic Congress parliamentary primaries. These primaries took place on February 7, 2026.

The Judicial Service stated that the court's decision means the by-election can proceed as planned.

The National Democratic Congress was named as the first defendant in the suit. The Electoral Commission was also involved in the case.

This ruling allows the political process for the Ayawaso East constituency to continue without interruption from this legal challenge.
