The Commissioner General of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) has formed a nine-member committee to investigate allegations concerning the unauthorized removal and disappearance of 28 containers at the Tema Port. This action follows a petition submitted by importers and their representatives, who reported that their containers, at various stages of customs clearance, were found missing, empty, or transferred to private warehouses without their knowledge. The affected consignments reportedly contained items such as cyanide, condensed milk, sardines, alcohol, textiles, pharmaceuticals, black pepper, and tomato paste. The matter has also been reported to the Tema Regional Police Command, where some arrests have allegedly been made, and suspects were granted police enquiry bail. The GRA Commissioner General stated that the allegations are considered serious due to their potential impact on revenue assurance, port security, and the GRA's reputation. The committee is tasked with verifying the petition, determining the status of the containers, reviewing customs system data, identifying any involved GRA officers or external collaborators, and recommending measures to prevent future incidents. The committee is expected to submit its report within 14 days.
