EOCO has returned £6,700, GH¢2,750, laptops, and mobile phones that were seized from Alhaji Abdul-Wahab Hanan Aludiba. Aludiba, the former Chief Executive Officer of the National Food and Buffer Stock Company (NAFCO), is currently on trial for allegedly causing GH¢78 million in financial loss to the state. The items were seized on July 5 when Aludiba was arrested at the Accra International Airport. His lawyer had filed an application for the release of the items to aid in his defence. However, the Deputy Attorney-General informed the court that the items had been returned to Aludiba, leading to the withdrawal of the application. Aludiba's wife and co-accused's counsel stated they had not been able to access information on the mobile phones as they had not been charged. The case, involving charges including conspiracy to commit crime, stealing, and causing financial loss, has been adjourned to October 20. Aludiba, his wife, and three others have pleaded not guilty to 24 counts. The prosecution alleges Aludiba and others caused a financial loss of GH¢50,879,210 by transferring funds to a company where a NAFCO manager was the owner, with only a portion used for genuine supplies. Further allegations suggest Aludiba diverted additional funds through companies linked to him and his wife. Richard Sam-Asante, NAFCO's Head of Finance, is reportedly on the run.
