Mr Charles Bissue, a former presidential staffer and Secretary to the Inter-Ministerial Committee on Illegal Mining (IMCIM), has asked the High Court in Accra to halt his criminal trial. His lawyers contend that the charges are defective, incurably flawed, and incompetent. The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) had previously withdrawn charges against Mr Bissue before filing fresh ones. The OSP is prosecuting Mr Bissue and another accused person on corruption-related charges, to which they have pleaded not guilty. The Criminal Division of the High Court granted them bail of GH¢200,000 each, requiring two sureties, one of whom must be justified. The court is scheduled to hear Mr Bissue's motion on October 26. According to the Ghanaian Times, one accused person in a previous trial related to the case pleaded guilty and was convicted.
