Eight people have died after an Ivorian passenger bus crashed into the rear of a parked Burkinabè passenger bus at Azuletti, near Samenye, on the Elubo-Takoradi highway in the Western Region.

According to Citi Newsroom, the crash happened at about 7:26pm on Thursday, 29 October 2026. The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) said the parked bus had obstructed one lane of the highway at the time of the collision.

Firefighters from the GNFS station at Elubo rescued 21 passengers, Adom Online reported. Seven people were pronounced dead at the scene and another died later in hospital.

The injured were taken to hospital for treatment, and the bodies of the dead were handed over to the police. The Ivorian bus was reportedly travelling towards Benin.

The GNFS said preliminary investigations suggested that speeding may have contributed to the crash. Investigations are continuing.

No arrests or charges have been reported, and the identities of the victims have not been released.
