Government has identified 102 illegal routes along the border in the Volta Region. These are paths that are not officially recognized for crossing into or out of the country.

The Minister for the Interior, Mohammed-Mubarak Muntaka, revealed this important information. He stated that these discoveries point to weaknesses in border security.

These unapproved routes could be used for criminal activities. Concerns have been raised about potential drug trafficking and other illegal operations using these paths.

The Minister presented these findings to Parliament's Assurances Committee. He appeared before the committee on Tuesday, July 7, to discuss border security matters.

The discovery highlights the challenges Ghana faces in controlling its extensive borders. It signals a need for increased surveillance and security measures.

Authorities are now looking into ways to address these identified illegal entry and exit points. Protecting the nation from illegal activities remains a priority.
