A JoyNews Research investigation has found what it describes as forged signatures and discrepancies in the payment records submitted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for the South Africa evacuation exercise.

According to the investigation, the records cover payment registers for 1,964 evacuees, but the signatures and supporting data contain inconsistencies. The investigation raises questions about who actually received the money, whether the records truthfully account for the expenditure, and how documents bearing questionable signatures ended up forming part of the official data.

The evacuation exercise, which covered the return of more than 1,600 Ghanaian citizens from South Africa, has been under scrutiny for weeks. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has not responded directly to the forgery allegations. The payment registers are meant to be the primary evidence that each of the 1,964 listed evacuees actually received what they were entitled to.
