The FBI announced 28 arrests in Ghana and Nigeria as part of Operation Blackout, according to FBI Director Kash Patel. The operation targeted scam networks operating out of Ghana and Nigeria. Authorities seized over 350 devices and took down more than 3.7 million scam-linked accounts. Investigators also identified over $11 million in funds potentially subject to freezing orders. The operation uncovered evidence of forced labour, with 120 or more trafficked workers identified. This operation follows a previous FBI-led action where 130 Ghanaian nationals were arrested in connection with schemes to defraud American citizens. The FBI stated that authorities are intensifying pressure on fraud networks operating out of West Africa, with arrests now spanning both Ghana and Nigeria.
