Mr. Nana Tuffuor, a leader of the Ghana National Tomato Traders and Transporters Association, has confirmed that tomato prices are expected to gradually become stable.
This follows supply shocks caused by a recent deadly attack on Ghanaian traders in northern Burkina Faso. The attack disrupted the supply chain, affecting the availability of tomatoes.
Mr. Tuffuor explained that market forces, particularly demand and supply, are the main factors determining prices. He believes these forces will help bring prices back to normal.
The current rise in prices is a direct result of these supply disruptions. However, the association leader expects a gradual return to stability over time.
Ghana relies on imported tomatoes, often from Burkina Faso, making such incidents impactful on local markets.
Consumers can anticipate a slow reduction in prices as the market adjusts to the changed supply conditions.
