Frederick Opoku, the Acting Rent Commissioner, has made it clear that asking for more than six months' rent in advance is against the law. He stated that landlords who break this rule will face legal consequences.

The Commissioner announced a new Rent Card system which will start on March 1. This system will be used across the entire country.

Both landlords and tenants will be required to get one of these cards. This new system is based on Section 20 of the Rent Act, which has been updated under PNDC Law.

Mr. Opoku stressed that the Rent Control Department aims to make sure everyone follows the rules. This ensures fair housing practices for all citizens.

The enforcement of this law and the introduction of the Rent Card are part of efforts to regulate the housing sector. This measure seeks to protect both landlords and tenants.
