A call has been made for new offshore patrol vessels for Ghana. This is to help protect the country's fishing waters.
The request comes from Reverend Ntim Fordjour. He is a member of the parliamentary committee on Defence.
Reverend Fordjour believes these ships are urgently needed. He said they would improve security in Ghana's waters.
His comments follow a recent incident. Fishermen were attacked by armed individuals near Senya Bereku.
Reverend Fordjour said that having these patrol boats would make pirates think twice.
He explained that their presence would serve as a strong warning.
The lawmaker stated that this defense measure is important for Ghana's maritime safety.
