The Institute of Community Sustainability (ICS) has called for a ban on eating cat and dog meat. This call includes stopping the killing of these animals for food.

ICS wants new laws passed. These laws would make it a crime to trade, transport, or sell cat and dog meat.

Eric Jerry Aidoo, the Executive Director of ICS, signed a statement on this issue. The statement said that cats and dogs experience great suffering during their slaughter. This suffering is a key reason for the ban.

The group also expressed concerns about public health. They highlighted risks of diseases spreading from these animals to humans. Such diseases pose a danger to communities.

The animal welfare group believes Ghana should follow other countries that have already banned this practice. They argue that it aligns with global animal welfare standards.

ICS urged lawmakers to take swift action. They want the government to introduce immediate regulations to stop the trade. This action would protect both animals and public health.
