A serious animal disease called Peste des Petits Ruminants (PPR) is a threat to goats and sheep in Ghana. The ECOWAS Regional Animal Health Centre has warned that millions of animals are at risk.

In Ghana, approximately 7.5 million goats and 6.5 million sheep are in danger. This means nearly all the country's small ruminants could be affected.

PPR is known to be a very deadly sickness for these animals. It spreads quickly and can cause many deaths.

Across the entire ECOWAS region, which includes Ghana, about 265 million animals are under threat from this disease.

The spread of PPR could cause big problems for farmers and for the food supply in the region.

Health authorities are working to understand the extent of the threat.

More information on control measures is expected.
