The Ghana Police Service has filed a motion on notice at the High Court in Nsawam seeking an order to stop the Osenase Homecoming scheduled for 12 to 18 October 2026, citing security concerns linked to an alleged chieftaincy dispute, Citi Newsroom reports.
The application was brought by the Inspector General of Police. Respondents include the Regent of Osenase, Boakye Obeng Asafo Agyei (also referred to as Nana Boakye Asafo Agyei), and three others, according to Citi.
In an affidavit supporting the application, the police said there is an ongoing dispute between two rival factions involving the Regent and Queen Mother Obaapanin Acheampomaa.
Citi reported that the West Akim Municipal Assembly Municipal Security Council (MUSEC) wrote to the Regent on 7 September 2026 informing him of a temporary ban on development and social activities organised directly by either faction.
The police further said the organisers failed to notify the police at least five days before the event, which they described as a statutory requirement.
Police argue that the event could threaten peace and that they have limited personnel. They asked the High Court to restrict the Homecoming at the Osenase durbar grounds from 12 to 18 October 2026, Citi reported.
The respondents oppose the application and have asked the court to dismiss it. They dispute the alleged chieftaincy dispute and the claimed security threat, according to Citi Newsroom.
Citi's report did not state that the High Court had granted or refused the motion.
