A High Court has dismissed an application seeking to stop new port charges. The Ship Owners and Agents Association of Ghana and other shipping companies had asked the court to issue an order. This order would have prevented the Ghana Shippers Authority from implementing its new rules.
The Ghana Shippers Authority had set a regulatory directive on May 11, 2026. This directive placed a limit on the Container Administrative Charge. The charge is set at GH¢720.
The applicants argued that the new charge should not be put into effect while their case was being heard. They wanted an interlocutory injunction granted by the court.
The court, however, did not agree with the applicants. It has now dismissed their request for the injunction. This means the Ghana Shippers Authority can proceed with enforcing the GH¢720 cap.
This decision affects how shipping companies and agents will be charged for containers at Ghanaian ports. The Ghana Shippers Authority aims to regulate and standardize these charges.
