The Court of Appeal has rejected a request by former Member of Parliament Kennedy Agyapong. He wanted to stop a defamation case brought against him.
The case was filed by Kwesi Twum, who is the CEO of the Multimedia Group. The Multimedia Group and Joy FM are also included in the lawsuit.
This was Mr. Agyapong's second effort to halt the legal proceedings. The court's decision means the defamation trial can now proceed.
Justices Angelina Mensah Homiah and Emmanuel […] were part of the panel that made the ruling. The court did not give Mr. Agyapong what he asked for regarding stopping the trial.
The original defamation lawsuit alleges that Mr. Agyapong made statements that harmed the reputation of Mr. Twum and the Multimedia Group.
Legal filings explain the nature of the defamation claims. Mr. Agyapong's legal team argued for the trial to be paused. The Court of Appeal considered these arguments.
The outcome means the legal battle over the alleged defamatory statements will continue. Further court dates are expected to be set.
