Mob beats suspected phone snatcher at PTC bus stop in Circle

A crowd beat a young man suspected of snatching a mobile phone at the PTC bus stop in Circle, Accra, on Saturday, 7 November 2026, then forced him to carry heavy stones.

Eyewitnesses said he took the phone from a trotro passenger and threw away its case. He denied the theft, but a search by the crowd allegedly found the phone on him. It was returned to its owner.

The man, who described himself as a painter, was made to confess publicly while some bystanders broadcast the punishment live on TikTok.

He was still carrying a stone under the crowd's watch and had not been handed over to the police.
