A total of 2,151 fatalities were registered nationwide between January and September 2026. In addition, 12,230 individuals sustained injuries during this period. The Director of Education, Research, and Training at the MTTD, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Alexander Kwaku Obeng, stated that the figures cover all reported crashes across the 25 police administrative regions. Police investigators were dispatched to crash sites to assist rescue teams, coordinate casualty care, and investigate the causes of the collisions. Authorities believe most of these fatal accidents are due to human error and are preventable. ACP Obeng urged drivers, transport operators, pedestrians, and all road users to adhere to traffic regulations and prioritize safety to reduce the loss of life on the country's roads.
